Ultimate Badass Challenges

The ultimate badass challenges are tough sporting events designed test your endurance and resolve. 

  • You might be a great runner, but are you a great swimmer as well?
  • Can you ride a bicycle with the same dexterity as paddling a kayak?

In order to be considered an ultimate Badass you must complete at least 3 ultra endurance races in different fields or 1 ultimate triathlon:

Ultimate Triathlons

A triathlon is a multi-discipline sporting event consisting of 3 sequential endurance races. Triathlons typically involve cycling, running and swimming. Ultradistance triathlon, such as the Ironman, cover 140.6 miles: a 26.2 mile run, 2.4 mile swim, and a 112 mile biking portion.

SavageMan 70

70 mile triathlon divided into a 1.2 mile swim in the waters of Deep Creek Lake, a 55.7 mile bike run on rural roads through forests, and a 13.1 mile run on gravel roads, paved roads as well as walking trails.

Norseman Xtreme Triathlon

140.43 mile triathlon divided into a 2.36 mile swim in the cold waters of Hardangerfjord, a 111.85 mile bike run over mountain passes with steep inclines, and a 26.22 mile run with the last 10.69 miles consistently climbing up to 6069.55 feet.

The Triple Brutal Extreme Triathlon

Adventure racing

Adventure racing or expedition racing is multi-disciplinary team sport involving navigation over an unmarked wilderness course with races extending anywhere from two hours up to two weeks in length.

Sea to Sea Expedition Race

When:  February 27 to March 1, 2020
Location: St. Augustine, FL

Description: 
Participants will begin the race somewhere on the West Coast of Florida and will have to trek, paddle, and bike to get back to St. Augustine. Teams will trek through 5 different state parks and bike through San Felasco.

Shenandoah Epic

When:  April 18 to April 19, 2020
Location: Bentonville, VA
Sponsor: Adventure Enablers, Downriver Canoe Company
Description: 
Participants will have to cover up to 100 miles in 24 hours through biking, trekking, and paddling canoes/kayaks. The racers’ skills and endurance will be put to the test by the 25 to 35 miles of trekking, 50 to 60 miles of mountain biking and 16 miles of paddling on the Shenandoah River.

Paddling

Paddling is the act of manually propelling a boat using a paddle. The paddle, which consists of one or two blades joined to a shaft, is also used to steer the vessel. The paddle is not connected to the boat (unlike in rowing where the oar is connected to the boat).

WaterTribe Ultimate Florida Challenge

Obstacle Course Racing

Obstacle Course Racing is a sport in which a competitor, traveling on foot, must overcome various physical challenges in the form of obstacles. Obstacles may include climbing over walls, carrying heavy objects, traversing bodies of water, crawling under barbed wire, and jumping through fire. Many obstacles are similar to those used in military training, while others are unique to obstacle racing and are employed throughout the course to test endurance, strength, speed and, dexterity.

Tough Mudder

An 8 to 10 mile foot race with 25 obstacles that test your endurance every step of the way. Savage Race

A 5 to 7 mile obstacle course race filled with hazards to slow your progress and test your might! Challenging swimming events involve open water races in which participants swim from destination to destination. Some events may require a wet-suit and verification of applicant ability, due to the increased risk of open water events. Port to Pub Swim

A grueling long distance swimming race composed of 2 races: a 12.24 mile leg from  Leighton Beach to Rottnest Island and a 15.53 ultra-marathon swim. This is one of the longest open water swims in the Southern Hemisphere. Who knows you might even encounter a few sharks.

Swim for Alligator Lighthouse

An ultra-marathon, also called ultra distance or ultra running, is any footrace longer than the traditional marathon length of 42.195 kilometers.

Daytona 100

Mountain biking

A sport of riding bicycles off-road, often over rough terrain, using specially designed mountain bikes. Mountain bikes share similarities with other bikes but incorporate features designed to enhance durability and performance in rough terrain. Mountain biking can generally be broken down into multiple categories: cross country, trail riding, all mountain (also referred to as “Enduro”), downhill, freeride and dirt jumping. However, the majority of mountain biking falls into the categories of Trail and Cross Country riding styles.

La Ruta de los Conquistadores

Description: 
A 3 day biking event that expands across 161 miles, crosses 5 mountain ranges and has participants climbing a cumulative 29000 feet. La ruta will have racers bike through mud, sand, water, and various other terrain. At times, the only way to proceed is to carry your bike. Through jungles, volcanoes, and suspended bridges, racers will have to change their strategy in order to advance.

Race Across America

Description: 
A 3000 mile race across 12 states where participants climb over 170000 vertical feet. Racers are given a maximum of 12 days to complete the race, with one ultimate badass finishing the race in under 8 days.
